THE BUNGOMA LINK

Through the Bungoma Link, Churches Together in Beaconsfield (representing all the Christian Churches) supports a Day Care Centre in Bungoma, Western Kenya.  The Bungoma Day Care Centre provides advice, occupational therapy and simple skills training for young people with disabilities, particularly those with malarial epilepsy.   Clients are visited in their homes and where appropriate, prescribed medication is supplied.

The Link between the two communities was established in 1985.  10 years later, 18 young people from Beaconsfield dug building foundations and in 2000 the Bungoman community completed the first centre.    In 2004 the Link raised funds to facilitate the building of a large workshop, a security fence and the installation of a water supply. The work was completed in 2005.  In 2007 an experienced voluntary Board of Governors was elected to support,  guide and monitor the management of the Centre.  The photograph features 6 staff and the Board of Governors.  The Link arranged for Philip Wekesa who manages the Centre to be trained at the Centre for Epilepsy in Chalfont St Peter.

The Beaconsfield Link sends quarterly payments to provide funding for Philip, three skill trainers and two assistants and to meet the costs of medication and other expenses. The Link Support Committee drawn from the Churches Together in Beaconsfield organises fund raising events to support these commitments.  If you would like to become a Sponsor please contact the Hon Secretary David Baker tel 01494 677834
